Who Wants Some Giant Horned Beast Cheese!

In 1893 newspapers reported the discovery of a Hodag in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. It had “the head of a frog, the grinning face of a giant elephant, thick short legs set off by huge claws, the back of a dinosaur, and a long tail with spears at the end”. The reports were instigated by well-known Wisconsin timber cruiser and prankster Eugene Shepard, who rounded up a group of local people to capture the animal. The group reported that they needed to use dynamite to kill the beast.

 

A photograph of the remains of the charred beast was released to the media. It was “the fiercest, strangest, most frightening monster ever to set razor sharp claws on the earth. It became extinct after its main food source, all white bulldogs, became scarce in the area. This is stripped straight from Wikipedia cause it made me laugh… see the rest here

Our Judge this week is Dr Gary! He’s my Northwoods guy! Doctor, Woodsman and now free range chicken farmer, though I’m pretty convinced he’s doing it to have a story about bears eating his birds!

Bad Thor! I'm using secret insider information for a full on judge pander with this one! But mostly I'm entertained that number 6 snaked my basic idea and layout straight from the ethereal realm of mythical beast drawing ideas!

Happy Birthday Mr Hodag! Man what a festive one! And such evil trickery... I mean sure the only way to dismantle a hodag is via tnt but using a free birthday cake trap that's killing puppies kinda mean... I'm especially fond of this dudes schnoz!

This Hodag is a real Hobag. Ha! I had pondered going this way with mine, good fun! From the ill maintained toes and squooshy belly texturing, to those beautiful sultry eyes and practical Northwoods hair!

 

 

 

All the Hodags here are stolen, so thanks to the original artists... and now I'm just focused on how frustrating it would be to have a magic lasso that allows you to see invisible Hodags! I mean, you'd have to be really good to make that useful.

 

 

 

You know, I've used the term "Dagwood" for a silly big sandwich so long, it took me a second to remember it was named after a character. I love the tiny pea sized head, and i swear that lovable face looks exactly like our old cohort Randy!

 

 

 

After researching... I found out the hodag does not like politicians, lawyers, or assessors... Looks like the Hodag took out an attorney. ooops. Personally I love that it could be lawyer bits under the Hodag or a clever anti lawyering costume!

 

 

 

Ha! Bouncers always have those tough guy nicknames for each other and I bet there are like 1000 Hodags working the doors up North. Sadly though, I just heard the famed and referenced Weasels, recently met with a fiery end .

 

 

 

Oooh we're getting close to a fish eyed Hodag here! Came with the caption i can haz spikes? and with an adorable gorilla nose like that I can't say no. Can you imagine the depth of flavor he can discern with that many taste buds?

 

 

 

The email said note the dead white bulldogs, the tnt and the nub, and all three are noted in the picture as well... classic fantastic foot smugglin manuever, look at those wonderful gnarled things! Good dead bulldogs too.

 

 

 

There's a whole lot of good happening in here. I'm pretty sure he has the best attitude so far and I know that's my favorite tail... but that freakish bagel dog nose, that's the topper... and such oddly spaced limbs.

 

 

 

Ok I'm sorry but that lil white bulldog is adorable! So much emotion in this one! I like to imagine its because they were vampire lovers and now the Hodag is sadly fading to dust in the light to the amazement and dismay of his puppy love...

 

 

 

I'm calling this one is a shaved Rodent of Unusual Size from Princess Bride Beware the fireswamp little Hodag! and for that matter that bastard Humperdink... I love how many Hodags keep at least one clawed foot off the ground!

 

 

 

I swear its the body language on some of these that cracks me up so... I mean is he angry? is he just a stern fellow generally? Does he know there's dynamite in the cheese? His umpire-alligator belly makes me pretty damn happy too!

 

 

 

Man I wish this one were a slightly better shot cause dammit if its not incredibly adorable. I mean the way he's holding that lil wheel of cheese is just precious! Good back spikes too...
