Everything You Need To Know To Draw The Great Pumpkin!

The Great Pumpkin 2016

Three Years After Our Last Great Pumpkin Battle, We Give it Another Go!

It’s almost Halloween, I always like the last beast before the holiday to be in the spirit of said festivity… We’ve got a pretty different crew these days, so I’m going back to one of my favorites we did three years back… maybe cause it’s tied to my childhood, maybe cause it’s such a tragic tale or maybe just cause it’s so open ended. Regardless it makes me smile and hopefully it catches you too.

For those of you who don’t know what the great pumpkin is, it’s a legendary beast from Charles Shulz’s Peanuts. I did a pretty thorough write up when we did this the first time, so if you’d like to have a look it’s here and for those of you already mostly in the loop let’s just jump to our bulleted descriptors

  • It is to this point entirely unseen beast so beyond the terms “Great” and “Pumpkin” we know very little
  • Legend has it he is supposed to appear in the pumpkin patch late Halloween night
  • What he’s supposed to do late at night in the pumpkin patch is, to me at least, a mystery
  • Possible it feeds off the disappointment of blanket dependent youth, or just really bad at keeping appointments

That’s it! All I ask is you don’t try too hard and have fun with it! We’ll close off submissions for judgement midnight of Friday the 28th… As always our judge’s favorite wins a shirt, so get your asses doodling!

Judgement Is Complete

the first place great pumpkin entry I pulled my veteran judge and longtime buddy Ken back in to judge our pumpkins as I knew he’d cut right to the chase … and as I predicted:

“Tough call… think i gotta go #7…good level of contrast and dimension…and has a skull…. and murder…

Disagree if you must but know that judgement is law and to the winner a shirt will go…. Thanks to drawers and judges alike. And even though the contest is done we’ll always welcome new Great Pumpkin drawings for the archives! So draw on and remember, 25 beasts drawn earns you a shirt!
