Most Everything you’ll need to know to draw the Winsted Wildman

The Winsted Wildman

Rural Connecticut’s Thinly Furred Man-Sized Squatch

I’ve gotta be honest, most everything I know about Connecticut came from Who’s the Boss, Martha Stewart and an ass-ton of hardcore songs. So beyond telling you that it’s blue blood east coast, that they obviously have picket fences, great finger sandwiches and folks who were friends once but now believe in different things (so they are friends no more)… well I’m kind of at a disadvantage when it comes to describing the setting.

But what I can do is tell you about this rounds hero! He’s a little guy in the world of squatches, described as merely man-sized. He doesn’t actually do a hell of a lot… no slaughtered lambs nor clawed up bumpers, mostly he jumps up on the road/path and just as quickly jumps back off to disappear into the brush. I’ve read a few descriptions that sell him as densely furred, but there are more then a few that sell it as much more a painfully naked man with excessively long, thin body hair (some say black, some more auburn). And to me that’s just a hell of a lot more fun so it’s what we’re going with.

My lawyer bud is from the CT, we’ll see if he’ll be willing to pass judgement!

Judgement Is Complete

The Winning Wildman DrawingI had my morning coffee buddy and original CT denizen Doug judge these for us, and he in turn smartly pulled in his 4 and 7 year old kids… here’s how it played out:

The winner as decided by our household committee: Entry #3

This choice was deemed “most scary, and that’s the most important thing” and is thus the winner. I think my personal favorite was Entry #4, but I was overruled by the kids. They also liked that #3 had thin hair, which fits the description of this sasquatch variant. His aging hippie attributes also are appropriate for a back-to-earth recluse like you might find in rural CT. (Steven Tyler has his Boston connection, which is still New England so seems somewhat appropriate too.) Lesser known fact about CT is that it is full of farmland and rural areas, and even tobacco fields which are still active today. It’s not surprising that northwestern CT would have its own sasquatch, though I do wish it were a little more menacing.

Know that judgement is now law and to the victor go the spoils! And don’t forget, you can always send your drawings of a Wildman in late, you won’t win a shirt but I’ll gladly post it for everyone’s enjoyment!
