Everything you need to know to draw the sea mouse!

the Sea Mouse

If you’ve paid attention over the years… you’d know Pliny just wasn’t great at accuracy!

He’s the guy that gave us, cameleopards, monopods and monoceroses… well there’s a lil tiny entry in his “Natural History” that while it most obviously describes the behavior of a sea turtle, is attributed to what he simply calls a sea mouse! So, I think to myself… “it’s been slow… i could prolly draw an egg laying, pirate mouse or twelve… why not F’ing just go for it?!”

So here’s what you’re working with

  • As far as we know it looks like a Mouse
  • Annually comes ashore to crawl to the beach of its birth where it buries its eggs in the sand
  • The rest of the time it’s a f*cking seafaring mouse!
  • If you need a locale, I believe we’re talking coasts, somewhere between the middle east and India

Now there is in fact a real creature who share this same name that will occupy most of your search results… its a furry aquatic worm that scurries from coral to coral and looks suspiciously like a dead rodent when it washes up in the waves… and I mean if you wanna draw hairy pirate worms… I’m not gonna say no! I just ask you have fun drawing it!
