The Eight Kneed Beast of Lumber Lore With Fatal Bite and Temper Sore!

Ah, back to one of my favorites, the beasts of lumberjack lore! So the Lufferlang is one of those magical beasts with very few clean visual descriptors. From what I can surmise, it sorta seems its a legend to explain the insane actions of a mean spirited pack mule, but hell that’s mostly just a guess so I’m just jumping into the bullet points as it’ll make more sense that way!

  • Hails from the dense woods in North America
  • Has an extra set of knees so at any point can run in any direction it chooses
  • Has a notoriously bad temperament and capable of a ferocious bite (for unknown reasons, if you receive that bite on July 12th it’s fatal?)
  • Has a swiveling tail set squarely in the middle of its back to fend flies off of all four haunches
  • Easily identified by the bright blue racing stripe down its back
  • Most illustrations I’ve seen in my books, have a somewhat equine noggin, but there are parts of the internet’s campfire stories that swear it has a spider’s head
  • They are fond of the color orange but the color green makes it angry
  • If attacked, your only true defense is to hold up a mirror, because the only thing a Lufferlang hates more than you… is itself…

Judgement Is Complete

TheFirstPlaceLufferLangThe Judges have convened and decision rendered! Here’s what everyone picked and their reasonings:

Mona
#2 is like something straight out of one of my nightmares. I’m half expecting to wake up, and bolt from my bed screaming about horse spiders dropping from my ceiling…The combo of eyes and realistic spider horse jowl fangs is exactly the right combination of terror to make this the winner in my book. Kudos…shiver.

Sarah
#6 I always love Cate’s beasts, and this Lufferlang was no exception. The charming character, combined with the expressive/gross odd-numbered eyes, came together perfectly with awesome cross-hatching. High marks across the board!

Ken
#1 – because it reminds me of the Corey Webster skate deck in Thrashin’

Chip
#1 Mostly… there’s no way I’m letting someone draw a drooling ass on spider legs and not get rewarded for it.

And Judge Cody is on vacation
but since he likes butt drawings pretty safe to assume his vote goes for # 1 too!

Disagree if you must but know that judgement is law and to the winner a shirt will go…. Thanks to drawers and judges alike. And even though the contest is done we’ll always welcome new Lufferlang drawings for the archives! So draw on, and remember, 25 beasts drawn earns you a shirt!

Hey at it’s core, all those descriptors lead to an ass on spider legs right? I mean the better question is: How can this be wrong? And that poisonous komodo drool/leakage and the broken mirror really sell it… My one complaint is your buttocks might feel a lil testicular… but that’s just whining…

Gah! No wonder it hates mirrors! That face is ripe with terror fruits! and all balanced out so nicely with the awkwardly long and adorable baby deer legs! Nice woodwork btw!

Lots of times I like to imagine theme songs for these guys… this one is dark, complicated, and jazzy with lots of fred flinstone bowling style high ended piano clinks… and unpredictable as… well unpredictable as a 8 kneed mule, duh!

Man someone’s drawing prickly this week… oh wait that someone’s me… not sure what made me make this one so knobby and toothsome… but he sorta reminds me of when Gary the snail gets “hangry”!

It’s funny, I’m so used to seeing asses not have spider mandibles, my brain sorta refuses em, first it wanted to see him chomping a kielbasa, then it was more of an old timey operator’s headset… but I think I’ve finally gotten past that… phweeew! Gotta love how the extra knees just hide in our lack of anatomy knowledge and dammit those are some good carrot/finger lopping incisors!

I’ve been watching lots of Rick n Morty lately, and all I can think is “Only I can have eyeholes! Give me those eyeholes!!!” beyond that , this is an adorably, lopsided, with too many joints, and excitedly hurried prance!

Yes! The descriptors and history really do almost go better as a toy’s backstory than a real beast… big fan of the spider mask and dammit those extra jointed elephantine legs are amazing!

You know from the spread of those multi hinged legs, and position of the top arms and the look in that eye… I’m not entirely sure that this isn’t a safely cropped, donkey schlong shot… but maybe we’ll go with benefit of the doubt, and say he’s just riding an invisible big wheel?

Interesting that I want to, paper doll clothes style, accessorize this guy… I think you could go Snidley Whiplash hat and ‘stache to great effect, but for some reason I think 1950s, tank topped gym suit and long striped socks and sneakers would really finish this guy off!
