The Sea Goat

thisWeekThePigFacedWomen

Like a Sea Horse, Only Hornier!

Made famous by the astrological Capricorn, the sea goat is the remarkably unsuited for any terrain, hybrid of a goat and a fish (Generally goat headed and fish tailed but who’s counting).

Humorously the internet tends to deal with this guys creation myth by simply saying, “this story is hard” but if you care, there are two general schools of thought. One being that the sea goat was created when the satyr Pan, needed to escape the beast of all beasts, Typhon so he simply grew a fish tail and swam off. And other slightly longer story involves a goat or goat herding nymph that suckled the baby zeus in a cave after he was rescued from chronos’ dinner table… and after a long series of events and transformations ends up losing it’s fishy tail and back on land as the goats we know today…

Whatever the origin we know the parts and since there are all kinds of goats to choose from, ranging from your adorably fuzzy and tin can gobbling angoras to your always friendly Baphomet, feel free to reach deep inside and find your own sea goat!

judgement Is Complete

our judgeOur judge this week is Mr Scott Stephens! Back in the Playboy days he was the “big boss”, but no matter the weight of the zillion dollar decisions on his back he made his teams feel valued, made the working environment feel free and creative and was willing to crack a smile while an elevator for of obviously immature web designers teased him about the squirrels loving the “nut oil” content of his drip irrigation system! Now he’s moved on to the online mortgage biz with a few of our draw-ers in tow. I wish them much success and offer my thanks for playing along…

Have you considered mythical beast themed mortgage packages ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ok So Judgement this week is a teeny bit different in that fact that in the spirit of the site, Scott got excited and did stream of consciousness comments on all the entries so be sure to scroll through everything! (and technically I was in a tie for 3rd but its within my power to just let that be Mr Free’s this week so long as i brag about it here)… he also said this which was very sweet and appreciated – “All I can say is that of all my creative years at playboy, this is one of the finest display of creativity and variety that I have ever experienced. As such, I think I owe a few “in the moment flow of consciousness” comments to each of the entires. Thank you to all the wonderful artists that keep this fantastic transition alive and well. Asking to judge it was the highlight of my week.”

The First Place Sea Goat Entry

Awwww man that’s good Sea Goat right there! I’m going with the simple and I assume much sadder than was intended caption of “the loneliest wave in the ocean”

Judge’s Commentary
Awesome – simple, sad, but eloquent. It may look too much like a
cross between a goat, frog and a carp, but overall a creature of beauty.
See how it reaches to another form of being

– The more you look at it, the more intriguing it becomes.

The Sea Goat Entry # 4

The Second Place Sea Goa tEntry

This artist had one of my favorite Sea Hogs (see him here) and you sorta know these two are buddies … And while I’m all for having a good time all of the time…. I just wish they’d eat a vitamin on occasion, as they remind me of a guy I once saw break a tooth on warm cheese!

Judge’s Commentary – Almost perfect down to the wayward eyes and tiny little goat horns. Looking at this transported me to a mythical time when goat roamed the waters and the land along with Centaurs, Dagons and Kinarras

The Sea Goat Entry # 14

The Third Place Sea Goat Entry

Yes! I can think of at least three symmetry nazis who will be driven absolutely nutty by this! I love it, it gives that glimpse from a moving car window/segment from a fleeting dream aspect that’s hard as hell to create purposefully! Plus clam shelled boobs and flowing ocean/Moses beards are almost always a good combo!

Judge’s Commentary – How did the artist know that a previous Playboy exec would be the guest judge. Sexy but tough. Simply awesome! So creative.

Now maybe it’s the constant barrage of xmas music I’m already hearing (bah humbug) but this guy feels a lil sea reindeer to me… though I do really appreciate how his widdle horns almost make a heart! And good plumage or whatever the well-finned equivalent is!

Judge’s Commentary
#1 – Excellent coloring and imagery, but looks more like “Max” in the
“Grinch Who Stole Christmas” than a mythical goat creature.

The Sea Goat Entry # 2

The Sea Goat Entry # 2

Hey good Goat noise captioning! It’s amazing how much more romance a sunset can add to a beast drawing! Also good mystery fingers on the beer holding hand!

Judge’s Commentary
#2 – Awesome effort! This reminds me a “party” fraternity mule – something that belongs in and was a victim of the film editing of the 1978 classic “Animal House”. One tragic flaw is the presence of the left human/goat hand – a goat would eat the can – not hold the can.

The Sea Goat Entry # 3

The Sea Goat Entry # 3

Goat Shrimp yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah! Goat Shrimp yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah! Least the song is sticky, but I feel like I sorta subconsciously stole this from an old satanic lobster pic in Oms’ portfolio least the goat headed crustacean part… but you know, tell Oms what a jerk I am while you get a tattoo at Revolution! See now we’re even!

Judge’s Commentary
#3 – Simply excellent effort, but something far too scary for me. I am confident of the nightmare I will have tonight after reviewing this image. Impractical as a functional swimming creature for his/her little shrimp tail could NOT keep the large demonic goat head from toppling over and swimming this creature headfirst in the bottom of the ocean. On a bright note, it will be the next tattoo on the back of my next – something other will see, but I will never view again (too scary)

So three things! first off i had no clue that there was ever even a pocket version, secondly how cool is it how battle scarred that lil beast is (the etch a sketch I mean but technically the goat looks a lil rode hard too!) …. and third that is very elegant curving for a device meant to draw on straight vectors!

Judge’s Commentary
#5 – Hands down the most technically challenging and bringing a child-like smile to my face. Seeing this creature led to me adding a Etch A Sketch to my Christmas list

The Sea Goat Entry # 6

The Sea Goat Entry # 6

So to absolutely change the song in your head…. you can totally sing “Sea Zebra” to the melody of “Dream Weaver”, enjoy that for the rest of forever! … I like how freaking excited that lil crab seems to be and that’s quite the magnificent tail!

Judge’s Commentary
#6 – By far the number one entry for the artists under 10 years old category. Makes me want to watch Disney’s “Little Mermaid” – crab and all.

The Sea Goat Entry # 7

The Sea Goat Entry # 7

“Sea Goat Meets Match.com” – Haha so here’s a dilemma… is a drawing of a mythical sea goat’s dating misery far enough from reality that i can think its funny without being a horrible person…. I mean I find it hilarious regardless… just reaching for a potential “save”! Genius inner tube laptop cozy btw, i expect to see commercials for those soon!

Judge’s Commentary
#7 – Excellent artistry, but a tragic flaw with the computer. Even a mythical goat cannot work a keyboard.

The Sea Goat Entry # 8

The Sea Goat Entry # 8

You know having just recently re-watched Razortooth, I gotta admit I would watch the hell out of a syfy movie about killer sea goats infesting a quiet fishing town… hell any town really… Good meaty yet streamlined tuna style body on this guy giving a humorous idea that he can really move in open waters!

Judge’s Commentary
#8 – Love it, but reminds me too much of John Travolta in “Swordfish”.

The Sea Goat Entry # 10

The Sea Goat Entry # 10

Man I know when I say this often enough it starts to lose it’s impact, but this is majestic as f*ck! Nicely incorporated goat spots addind to teh depth and for all you future water park engineers out there, dammit if this wouldn’t make for a festive way to end a slide!

Judge’s Commentary
#10 – Runner up to #6 for the artists under 10 years old category.

The Sea Goat Entry # 11

The Sea Goat Entry # 11

Oh hell, you know he uses those tiny arms like a crab or a shrimp or for that matter mr Peepers would… what with them being built for fast feathery spinning of food stuffs with the blurring mouth hole and the multitude of floating scraps… though i suppose he could also be the world’s worst bare knuckle boxer?

Judge’s Commentary
#11 – Best “Jack Black” mythical goat creature!

The Sea Goat Entry # 12

The Sea Goat Entry # 12

So added to the list of things I never that I never knew before: that “bawitaba” was actually the name of the kid rock “bawitaba da bang a dang diggy diggy…” song…. man those are good pointy hoofed goat limbs And if that lil forked tongued faygo soda covered clown loving seanworm wants to sit down and listen to the Great Malenko, I’ll listen at least as far as “how many times” with him…

Judge’s Commentary
#12 – 3rd place for the under 10 years old artists category, but special thanks and acknowledgement for the single front tooth and the irreverent sticking out of the tongue by the baby creature

The Sea Goat Entry # 13

The Sea Goat Entry # 13

Haha! So with the obvious cat genetics mixed in there all I can imagine is how loudly and inccessantly this thing would lick its own deliciously fishy tail… great “big country” horns btw!

Judge’s Commentary
#13 – Obviously an interesting mix of steer, lion and mermaid. It wins best in the non-goat category

The Sea Goat Entry # 15

The Sea Goat Entry # 15

Well dammit if those aren’t the most adorable lil corgi legs I’ve ever seen pasted on a goat fish! I gotta say though, even though it sorta looks swollen with goaty roe (erf)… I stand by that this looks to be the cleanest smelling entry this week!

Judge’s Commentary
#15 – Beautiful cross between guinea pig, ferret, fat fish and goat. Very nice! I just want to cuddle this little guy

The Sea Goat Entry # 16

The Sea Goat Entry # 16

So my two favorite parts are the creepy bad early 80s minimal yet wilted garnish and that fact that technically if your entire composition had just consisted of that beautiful fork, I’d still know exactly what it was that you intended with the piece!

Judge’s Commentary
#16 – A sad sad ending to the creature and this week’s competition
